What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese word that comes from two words – Rei and ki. When they are used together for the practice of healing, the word Rei means universal soul or spirit. The word ki refers to the life energy that flows through all living things, so called “universal life force energy’
Reiki is a none invasive healing method of stress reduction and relaxation that promotes healing on a holistic level. The technique was developed in Japan by Dr Mikao Usui and is administered by placing the hands lightly on or above the energy centers of the body known as the chakras.
It is known that all living things have energy flowing through them called life force energy. When your life force energy is high, you’ll feel energised, strong and confident, be more relaxed and centered. The body’s own innate healing abilities are activated and further utilised for healing and you are less prone to illness. When life force energy is low, you’ll often feel tired, be more easily affected by stress thus more susceptible to further illness, and disease.
Reiki increases your life force energy and causes deep relaxation that reduces stress and promotes healing. A Reiki treatment will also release negative feelings or thoughts leaving the client feeling more positive, energised, light hearted and with a general feeling of well-being. Reiki energy brings about healing and balance on a holistic level, healing mind, body and spirit.
What does Reiki feel like?
Reiki energy is chanelled through the practitioner’s hands into the recipient’s energy centers, the chakras, to restore balance to the mind, body and spirit.
While the patient is seated or lying down and fully clothed, the practitioner’s hands are very lightly placed on or above the recipient’s body along energy centers and pathways on the head, neck, chest, abdomen, legs, and feet. As the healing energy flows into the body, the recipient may feel warmth or coolness, gentle tingling, or just deep relaxation.
